1st Grade Reading Comprehension Center with Picture Match

$4.99

This reading comprehension center with CVC words, other decodable words, and pictures is the perfect small group matching activity to teach 1st grade students (and advanced kindergarten) to read 2-3 details in a sentence.

This center comes with 8 reading mats that each have 3 pictures on them. Reading mats must be printed in color; however, they may be laminated for used year after year.

Each mat comes with 18 word cards that will match 1, 2, or 3 details in the picture. The cards work well with scaffolding and differentiation. Each set contains at least 3 single words, at least 3 groups of words, and at least 3 full sentences. The reading mats increase in difficulty (matches for reading mat 1 are easier than matches for reading mat 8).

Mats and cards are clearly labeled for easy storage. When a word could work with more than one reading mat, it is included in both sets. This makes is easy to store all of the materials for each mat together.

What makes these reading mats different?

  • High quality pictures. Many activities that ask students to match pictures use low quality, small black and white pictures in a worksheet. The details in these pictures are easy for students to see.

  • Differentiated content. Every reading mat comes with content ranging from CVC words to complete sentences.

  • Unit Alignment. These reading mats are aligned with common 1st grade units such as animals, creature features, farms, and pets.
